Currently taking synthetic hormones
(i.e. premarin, estrace etc.)
If you are post-menopausal or have had a hysterectomy and are currently
taking synthetic hormones, we feel
it is important to wean your system from these
pills over a period of 3 months rather than abruptly making a switch.
Here is how:
Month 1: On the 6th day, start using the
Natural Progesterone cream with one full pump
(approx. 1/2 teaspoon) twice daily (am and pm), stopping on
the 1st day of the next month. Also reduce your intake of the
synthetic hormones to every other day for the entire month.
Month 2: Reduce your synthetic hormone
intake to every third day. Start the Natural Progesterone cream again on
the 6th day as before, stopping again on the 1st day of the next month.
Month 3: Reduce your synthetic hormones
to once a week. If you should run out of your prescription before
the end of the month, no need to refill. You can simply stop. Start
the Natural Progesterone cream on the 6th day and continue again
until the first day of the next month.
Subsequent Months: Continue starting and stopping
the cream as before. It is very important to stop using the Natural
Progesterone cream at least 3-5 days each month with your goal being
5 days off per month.
No Longer Menstruating
Begin with one full pump (approx. 1/2 teaspoon)
twice daily starting on the 6th day of each month, stopping on the
1st day of the next month. Do not use the Natural Progesterone Gel
for the first five days. It is very important to stop using the
Gel at least 3-5 days each month with your goal being 5 days off
per month.
Some women who are no longer having menstrual flow and have
NOT had a hysterectomy
may experience some "breakthrough" bleeding. We feel that the
Natural Progesterone helps the body eliminate the effects of
estrogen dominance and thus can stimulate a shedding of the
uterine wall built up in the presence of excess estrogen.
However, if this bleeding were to repeat itself for longer
than a few months, consult with a health-care professional.
Hysterectomy
Begin with one full pump (approx. 1/2 teaspoon)
twice daily starting on the 6th day of each month, stopping on the
1st day of the next month. Do not use the cream for the first five days.
It is very important to stop using the Natural Progesterone cream
at least 3-5 days each month with your goal being 5 days off per month.
Still Menstruating
Begin with one full pump (approx. 1/2 teaspoon)
twice daily 14 days after the onset or first day of your period.
Continue this dose for nine days and then stop. Repeat this cycle again
after your next period.
Still Menstruating With Adverse Menopausal Symptoms
Begin with one full pump (approx. 1/2 teaspoon)
twice daily starting after ovulation (which is usually 12 to 14 days
after the start of the last menstrual period. Continue this dose until
menstrual flow starts again. It is very important to stop using the
Natural Progesterone cream at least 3-5
days each month with your goal being 5 days off per month to mimic the
natural hormone cycle. It is this natural, hormonal cycle, which is
adversely disrupted by progesterone deficiency.
